Thanks, that reensures me in  my thoughts, I think it`s the way to go.
Besides the ULF is designed on pine not spruce. And The spar is rather
unique, 3 dimensional in shape, aircraftspruce, doesnt even carry thin
material that would be needed. I`d end up wasting a lot of expensive
material, shaping down larger boards.

Hello Johannes - I am building a Pietenpol Air Camper - an old Member 60 design
from the US.  Maybe I will start a ULF when this is finished.....I think it
is a great design!
I have found a lumber supplier near me that sells rough cut boards of many
different types of Member 60.
I was able to look through the type of Member 60 I wanted, to find the best,
clear, straight, tight grained Member 60 in the length that I needed.
I then had it moved to a woodworking shop that makes doors, windows, stairs,
etc from Member 60, and had them cut the rought boards into the sizes I needed.
Quite a bit of work, but you learn about the Member 60, and it is much cheaper
than say, Aircraft Spruce.  There is a lot of material you will buy that is
not satisfactory, but it is still cheaper.
If there are any Member 60 suppliers in your area, I would start there.

Subject: [ULF-1] big vertical tail


Hi, I just received my set of planes, and Im trying to source material from
within my area, Vienna Austria.
If anyone could give me a tip where to look for northern pine, I`d
appreciate. I`m trying  to avoid aircraft spruce.com, since the plans call
for nothern pine, and they dont stock 1 cmthik boards neede3d for the main
spar. 
I was old to search for selected Member 60, obviousely dry, at least 7 grains per
cm, and straight.
I did notice a rather large and high vertical stabilizer and rudder, and was
wondering if this isn`t a bit oversized  for a man carriying plane. 
This is my first post, so if I did something wrong, it`s because of that.
