Hi Member 62,

 Not all the elevator torsion formers are shown on the plan. I have traced
the patterns that are shown straight onto balsa by pushing a sharp point
through the plan. I then cut this out roughly with a saw and used the disc
sander to finish. I then made the matching other side by drawing round the
one I had just made and repeating the process and ensuring they are
identical and fit the spar nicely. I intend making the missing formers over
size, mounting them  and sanding down with a long wooden sanding block
guided by the plan made formers either side.

This is the technique Dieter recommends for the fin leading edge formers
using a hot wire to shape  the foam formers rather than sand paper.

I am right at the top of the pilot weight limit so I am not so concerned
about the tail being too heavy. I will be using a good quality yacht varnish
thinned 50 50 and applied by brush.

I was puzzling over a detail on the rudder actuator assembly over the last
couple of days.  According to the drawing on sheet 26, the rudder actuator
is fixed to the rudder by means of one M6 and 3 M5 bolts, while the detail
of the actuator drawn on sheet 27 shows the M6 bolt as being M5.  Which did
you end up using ?

A secondary question to all and sundry, is there a recommended way to
produce all the quarter- and semi-circular gussets for the rudder and
elevator ribs ?  Cut slightly over-size with scissors, then sand down to
size ?  Cut with a knife instead of scissors ?  Does anyone know if these
could be laser cut, or if the heat would damage the glue layer and weaken
the ply too much ?  If laser cutting is an option, then my local FabLab
would be a good place to visit... (www.fablabmanchester.org in my case, but
there are similar setups in many towns in many countries I believe).
