I was thinking about converting a primary glider by putting a horizontal crossbrace behind the pilots seat with 2 small engines at each end, Braced properly. Engines like I have used in Giant RC Scale. Yhe C G wouldnt be affected and the thrust would be on the centerline and the yaw would be helped if the design kept the engines tucked into the fuse in case 1 engine pooped out. I forward my reply to Member 67 to share with you all a possible power approach. A power pod over the wing is not viable because of the too high thrust line. They carry lots of brushless motors and lithium polymer batteries for R/C hobby industry. Somewhere in there may be an appropriate set of brushless motors, batteries, and speed controllers that may do the job for the ULF-1. I got onto this idea because I saw a Lazair ultralight at Oshkosh this past summer powered by two brushless motors, one on each wing, and a large grouping of Hobby King lipo batteries wired in series. He flew for 45 minutes each morning and evening, and the Lazair was even fitted with floats! You can check out his project on RCGroups.com. I really feel the ULF-1 is a great platform for this type of experimentation. Have you ordered your plans yet? I spoke with Member 9 on the engine. Dieter keeps the engine power to be sufficient. At the end of our current project (KOALA FP202), we start with the ULF Motorisiering 1. Currently we have 3 ULF1 stand in our hall. I take a picture in the coming days. Who knows of a suitable controller for the engine? I have the ULF 1 joints as a DXF drawing.
