Hello, everybody,In 2000, I fitted my ULF1 with a 18hp two-stroke, two-cylinder engine (1st picture)By a beautiful september day in Fayence, Var, south of France near Cannes, I tried it. As soon as power was applied, the glider settled on its nose, refusing to move forward (2sd picture).
A guy around there said: "Maintain the tail on the ground and, when reaching speed, you'll have control on the elevator."Bad idea, indeed: my buddy couldn't possibly run up to 10 kmh in this attitude (3rd picture) with his knees in poor shape. After a few meter-run and with full power applied, he let it go: the glider went back on its nose and stopped abruptly. The engine continued, describing a 90° degree-arc forward and down. Usually, props cut fingers, hands, arms or, worse, heads. Here, it was the left big toe, partially.
Probably a first.The good thing: the prop was propulsive. If I had designed the motorization with a tractive one, I wouldn't be telling the story...Conclusion: the ULF1 is not designed to be motorized. Buy the ULF2 plans.Good evening to all of you.André Member 64.
