Hello group,
I'm still very intrested in building a ULF-1 I learned to fly in glider back in the 80's. When the club moved, I decided to build a Mk-2 Kolb which, I thought, might be a fine tug for an ultralight glider like the ULF-1. I'm also fond of the Super Floater because of the simplicity and open air nature of the design. I won't know for sure which way to go until the time comes to start.
There's lots of good thermal activity in Texas so I don't expect to have any trouble staying up. But I do have some concerns about a glider that light having the ability to penetrate. Anybody else share those concerns? For Mr. Goringer: Based on your building experience so far, would you hazard a guess at the number of hours you'll need to complete the project?

Welcome to the ULF-1 list: Srikanth Kandadai, Member 28, Steve Corboy, Jean Fourcade, Member 40, Ben Hankel, Ben Greenwood, Member 18, Heinz Erben and Hanspeter Jenny!
If everyone would please send me your location information and any associated URLs, I will
complete your listing in the directory below. We'd also love to hear from you regarding your
aviation experience and interest in ultralight soaring. Is anyone building a ULF-1 besides
Member 12 Gohringer?
It's been a while since I last updated this membership information, and it's good to see all the new subscribers. Here's what I know: Dieter was finally able to post to the list successfully on 6/25/07. He posted a test message and since then we haven't heard from him. Are you there, Dieter? We'd all love to hear from you.

Not working on the ULF-1 yet. I havent got a responce for the PDF to be able to order the plans.
You asked about experience..... I'm pretty new. Currently working on a JDT MiniMax. Its on hold because I'm working 12/7. I hope to get the covering done next winter. I bought it half done, and figure I'll have another 300-400 hours into it, by the time its flying. Before the MiniMax, I flew radio control airplanes. I started building them 29 years ago. 25 years ago, I started designing my own. Most were quite sussesful. Now that I'm in my 40's, its time to put myself into a plane. In Nebraska, power is the obvious choise. Its so flat here, you have to go 50 miles to find a hill more than 20 feet tall. I have learned that Nebraska has some of the best thermals in the states, so I'm thinking of a glider for a second project. I currently hold the record in the RC club for gliding of a powered Plane. From power off, I kept a scale Piper Vegabond up for 47min. 48 sec. A day like that should keep the ULF-1 up a long time! But, since its so flat, and a tow is probably out o
f the question....... What are peoples ideas for getting airborne? Winch? probably not for one man. Elastic cord? Anyone out there with soaring experience to say how dangerous that might be? My flying site is a grass strip 50' wide and 1/2 mile long, with an additional 1/4 mile to the property line.
