Good morning gentlemen,
I am happy to be here and thrilled to be in the presence of our distinguished designer Dieter. I have so many questions, I don't know where to start. But first, a little about me and why I am interested in the ULF-1.
I live in Texas and have been involvd with soaring since the early eighties. Most of my soaring experience has been with club owned metal ships of the Sweitzer variety. I am a licensed Private Pilot and have also built a kit airplane, a Kolb Mk2 which I still own and fly as often as I can. But I miss soaring and I also miss the building experience and would like to build something while I'm still Member 137 enough to safely fly it.(I'm 61)
The idea of building something in the weight category that we are talking here is recent to me and the basis for my questions. I'll start with one and move along as the list progresses.
I understand "microlift" but wonder if this kind of light air is the only condition suitable to flying a craft with a wing loading this low? Summer in Texas provides thermal activity that will often take your breath away as the air can be turbulent and rough. I know that a ship with a G loading of +6 -4 ought to be able to physically withstand anything that a 1-26 can but my curiosity centers around what that feels like when the gross is less than 300 lbs. Any thoughts on this?
Steve
