Jon,

Thank you for introducing me to homebuiltairplanes.com. It's nice to 
know about options, should I ever croak or stop facilitating this group 
for whatever reason.

I've been connecting communities for a long time. Up to a certain point 
in scale -- and this group is obviously very small in scale -- I prefer 
a format that is unfragmented by numerous special interest tangents, 
free of advertising or of the host's need to monetize the site, and free 
of restrictions in general.

Email may be last century, but it remains a powerful, direct and 
uncompromised venue. Opportunities/venues abound for builders to blog 
and post photos of their projects, which can be easily shared here. I 
don't see any reason to provide something so redundant. And the URL 
www.ulf-1.com is easy to find and powerful for getting all interested 
parties under one roof.

Years ago, when I became interested in building a ULF-1, I saw the lack 
and need for something to bring interested folks together. After 
visiting about it with Dieter, I secured the domain, posted the English 
version of the web site, and created the email listserv. Now, years 
later, I see that I will likely never embark on this project. There is 
nothing about facilitating this group that I personally need or profit 
from. I'm just seeing it through, and Dieter has been good about 
providing funds for keeping the domain registered. All to say that I'd 
be happy to hand it off to someone else, but I'd like to know that the 
new guy would have the staying power to keep it going long-term, and 
that it wouldn't be turned into a fragmented, commercialized mess that 
wouldn't necessarily do as good of a job at connecting and supporting 
fans of the design. Sometimes an old, last-century, cast iron tool is a 
better choice than the cheap, feature-laden things available now that 
don't do the job as well or hold up over time.
