Hi Austin,
Thanks for your kind words. We did not deviate at all on any of the structural component dimensions. The top and bottom spar caps were built per plan. For the motor mounts in each wing, we did beef up the rear of the spar outboard of rib #2, ribs #1 and #2, and the diagonal rib. For the ribs, this involved using the 3/4” Owings Corning purple foam from Home Depot (instead of the 1/2” Dow blue foam), and laminating both sides with thin Finnish Birch ply. An extra small diagonal rib is also planned between Ribs 1 and 2. The extra weight here will be saved with the R/C servo actuated spoilers, which eliminates a lot of cable, pulleys, and cranks. Also, we are saving more weight by using Am Steel braided line for all the control cables instead of regular aircraft cable.

We did not have the tooling to fabricate these large rivets. So, at each station that required a rivet, we drilled a 1/2? hole and epoxied a nylon lug or bushing into the hole. The nylon lugs have a 1/4? hole drilled down the center to accept an AN-4 aviation bolt. We epoxied the steel spar fittings on, with their 1/4? holes pre-drilled to match the holes on the nylon lugs.
