Our family built a cub instead of Ulf, but we studied it, got the plans and may do it in the future. We considered various take off options, but what I like about the Ulf is low speed airfoil that enables foot launch. We considered mounting motor up front, on a firewall extended up from the main beam. with rope pull start for in flight restart. My son preferred 2 motors, one mounted on each wing.
Now that we have a cub, we could tow a ulf up, but the glide ratio isn't that good. It is really a entry level project for flight training, great for a group of Member 137 aspiring aviators led by a experienced craftsman. Creative options for off hill foot launch or bungee. Motor would make it a nice performing airplane. The deciding factor for us was putting in so much time &$ we wanted a two place.
Good luck.
