Hi Peter,

We have used 1/2" Blue Dow Home Insulation foam ribs throughout (except 3/4" thick ribs at wing roots) capped with 3/32" spruce cap strips top and bottom.  We did loaded destruction tests on these ribs and compared them to the stick built ribs.  Weights were comparable, but they were 3-4 times stronger than stick built ribs, plus much faster to build.  So, we feel this is a more modern way to build all the ribs, but nearly as beautiful as Josef's ribs!

We digitized all the loft drawing contours, and cut out all the ribs with a computer controlled CNC cutting machine with a round router cutting blade.  We programmed the machine to cut 3/32" less top and bottom to allow for the thickness of the spruce cap strips.
