Hello Andy,

you are right, the ply webs go on the flat sites of the spar caps.

The ply web of the front spar faces forward, thus providing sufficient glueing 
area for Balsa - und Foam ribs of the nose section. The ply web of the rear
spar faces backward. In other words: both ply skins face outward, as
shown in view "A" and view "B".

The ribs of the "torsion box" are glued to the corresponding vertical stiffeners of the spars.
The diagonal ribs are fitted-in and glued to the vertical rib stiffeners.

  Where do the ply stiffner/skins attach to the vertical stabiliser spars?

  I assume they go on the flat side of the frame work and not the tapered side?
  Then does the ply side of the spar face inward or outward or do both face forward or both backward. In other words do the ribs attach to the ply side of the complete spar or the frame side.

  The only photograph in the instructions is of the rear spar and this shows the frame on the inside, however the drawing seems at odds with this.

  I would expect that as there are diagonal ribs and horizontal ribs attaching to the spars that a ply surface would provide a larger glueing area than the frame side and would there for create a stronger join.

  here are my answers:

   

  1. You should replace 0.6mm by 0.8mm plywood.

   

  2. Ulf-1 operates at low dynamic pressures. There is no need for reducing the hinch moments of rudder and elevator by aerodynamic means.

  To compensate the elevator weight, a rubber cord keeps the elevator in the up-position, as shown on plan No.26.

   

  3. Each of the 4 surfaces to be covered (upper and lower surface of left and right wing) must be covered with one piece of fabrics in one run.

    Le escribo desde chile para saludarlo y plantearle algunas dudas respecto a la fabricación del ulf1.

    Me encuentro estudiando los planos del ulf1 en vías de comenzar la construcción este año, y encontrándome con ciertas dudas, quisiera molestarlo con algunas preguntas:

    1)      no es posible encontrar en el país un terciado del espesor requerido (0.6mm). Será posible reemplazarlo con fibra de vidrio? o con terciado de 0,8mm?

    2)      Los timones no cuentan con una contraparte en sus extremos. No se ponen los comandos pesados por ese motivo?

    3)      No es peligroso que el recubrimiento alar de ceconite se aplique solo en sectores?

       Ich schreibe aus Chile um Sie zu begrüßen und bitten Sie ein paar fragen, was ULF1.
       Ich studiere die ULF1 plant bau, in diesem Jahr beginnen, und da ich mich mit einigem zögern, stört ich Ihnen einige fragen stellen:
      1) Kann nicht in das Land ein sperrholz der erforderlichen dicke (0,6 mm) gefunden werden. Möglich sein, sie mit Glasfaser/Epoxi zu      

      ersetzen?  Oder mit  einen 0,8mm sperrholz?  

    3) Das Höhen- und Seitenruder hatten kein gegenstück an den enden. Werden die controlle nicht schwerer, weil der das?

      4) Köntte nicht geferlich ceconite flügel gedekt nur nach sektoren?
