Subject: [ULF-1] News from Dieter
First, let me apologize to new list member Frank Bennis, who apparently
subscribed during the time my email address was having problems, so I
was unaware of his joining. Yes Frank, you are subscribed and should be
receiving all the posts to the list (although it has been a very quiet
group). Welcome, Frank.
I received a message from Dieter, who says, "Right now, I am busy to get
a VNE of 90 km/h authorized, so that ULF-1 can be air towed by faster
aircraft. The test flights were done this summer." He also wrote, "I
expect, or should I say "hope", that those, who are really willing to
build should organize a "work sharing" on the basis of their individual
skills, I am prepared to give technical assistence at any time."
In addition, Dieter mailed a couple of disks to me. One had a number of
lovely photos of a ULF-1 flying at "Dolmar" near the "Wasserkuppe." I
have posted the best ones to the web site, you can find them here:
http://www.ulf-1.com/dolmar
If there are one or two of these photos that list members would like to
have as wallpaper for their computer screen, please reply to the list
with your preference and your screen resolution, and I will post
appropriately-sized images to the site.
The other disk Dieter sent is a DVD with some fun and inspiring videos
of ULF-1s being foot-launched and towed by a horse, a hovercraft, and a
snowmobile! A ULF-1 in Sweden features a small, pylon-mounted engine
over the wing. If it has enough power to get the glider above ground
effect, it is not evident from the videos. Unfortunately, I have no way
to share these videos. I feel much more inclined to start a ULF-1
project, and hope the new photos will help to inspire others.
Happy Holidays,
Doug
